Abstract

The purpose of this study was to compare the translucency and color change of laminate ceramic veneers on different thicknesses before and after glazing. Square-shaped specimens that were 0.3 mm, 0.6 mm and 0.9 mm thick, respectively, were fabricated with the Styleveneers (n=30). The color coordinates (CIE L* a* b*) of the specimens were measured before and after glazing with a colorimeter. For a comparison between the `not glazed` and `glazed` groups and among the thicknesses, data were analyzed with a paired T-test, oneway ANOVA test and multiple regression analysis using SPSS 18.0 (p=0.05). The translucency parameter (TP) of the 0.3 mm- and 0.6 mm-thick specimens showed statistically significant differences before and after the glazing process. The one-way ANOVA of color difference (¥ÄE*) and change of color coordinate (¥ÄL*, ¥Äa*, ¥Äb*) were statistically different among samples of different thicknesses. The result of the multiple regression analysis showed that ¥Äb*, ¥ÄL* improve ¥ÄE*. Within the limitations of this study, we conclude that the glazing step changes the translucency of 0.3 mm- and 0.6 mm-thick specimens and the color of lithium disilicate laminate ceramic veneers.
